Breeder's Cup Weekend

And they're off..... We headed to California to Arcadia for the Breeder's Cup.  Your Papa had a horse, Private Prospect running in the race and it was a once in a lifetime experience so we had to go.  You, Mommy and Daddy left on Thursday October 30th and braved your first flight together and you were an absolute angel... if they can all be like that we'll be lucky.  You fed before we got on the plane and then slept most of the flight, woke up for another feeding and some snuggles and then were back sleeping again.

All our stuff... not bad for our first time traveling as three

It was the most amazing weekend.  Our first night there Mommy, Nana, Papa and Campbells enjoyed dinner in Pasadena at Green Street Tavern - you and daddy stayed at the hotel so you could get a good nights sleep.  We did our best to keep you on Chicago time and account for daylight savings time that weekend as well.  On Friday You, Mommy, Daddy and Nana had brunch with your cousins Reed and Michelle Horwitz.  It was so nice to see them and spend some quality time with them even if it was only a few hours.  That afternoon Daddy's good friend Jeff Goodell also came and met us at the hotel.  Daddy was so excited to see him as it's been awhile since they caught up, Jeff also got to meet you.

Friday night we went to one of the Breeder's Cup events which was, A Taste Around the World at the Huntington Library. A food and wine fest = happy mommy and daddy.  It was chef's from all around the world as well as vineyards and liquor.  We had an amazing time sampling everything and you were again a perfect angel while we were there.  Even though it was a cocktail party we went early and were on our way back to the hotel by 730p to put peanut to bed.

Saturday was race day!! We all got dressed up in our race day finest and headed over to the track.  We had a nice table with fabulous service and enjoyed a really yummy three coarse lunch.  Private Prospect was in the 8th race, and we were all sooo excited to see how he was going to do.  Over the last few weeks he had been training really well.  The race went off, he broke so well and was in the top three for most of the race, as he came around the final turn he started to die.  It was so hard to watch him struggle to finish.  We found out later that day that he unfortunatley had half pulled off his front shoe and was running on it that way.  That's basically like running a race without one shoe, very difficult. Even though he didn't finish in the money, it was a relief to know that there was a reason he didn't - he'll get a nice vacation after this race and then it's back to the track to win some more money for Papa. He's a great horse and we're excited to see what he'll do.
