We decided we really needed a weekend out of the city as we got into August and wanted to do something different. We've heard such great things about New Buffalo Michigan we decided to rent a house there and invite our good friends Jenny and Nick DeBias and there adorable baby Sam to join us for a night.
We left Chicago Thursday morning with no agenda and a fully packed car! We were worried we might not all fit but Brisco squeezed his but in between the car seats and away we went. The kids were great in the car and we arrived with no issues, it only took us an hour to get there.

We explored downtown and sat at the harbor for a little while we also stopped by an adorable farmers market in the square and let Avery explore and get a fun balloon animal.
We headed to the beach for day two, our guests weren't arriving till later in the day and so we wanted to take full advantage of the nice weather. The kids had the best time playing in the sand and Gavin was great about not eating any of it. I was a little nervous since he's so mobile now compared to his last beach day.

Had to represent Shark Week!
We headed home for naps and afterward decided to do some blueberry picking at a nearby farm and also do some wine tasting. With no schedule we had the best time just stopping place after place with the kiddos.

Such a pretty day and a fun activity
Next stop was Shady Creek Winery where we shared a tasting and ended up getting a bottle to take home with us. 1/2 the proceeds go to a dog rescue shelter which we loved.

Jenny, Nick and Sam arrived that night and we had the best time! They were so sweet and arrived with dinner for us. Once the kids were in bed we prepped and made dinner. We also enjoyed the fire pit with some smores! That morning Jenny and I explored the neighborhood and stopped by the beach for a morning walk. Once we got back Dave took Avery to the park in our neighborhood while Gavin and Sam napped.

After naps it was time to hit the beach. We packed everybody up and hit the sand. Gavin was so cute trying to play with Sam as soon as we arrived.
What a cutie this sweet boy is

Sam finally gave in and took a snooze in the tent.
After the beach the Debias' fam hit the road back to Chicago and we stayed for our last night. We took the kids over to the near by park and splash pad to check it out while we waited for our dinner reservation at the Stray Dog. We timed it perfect, we put our name in, went to the park for an hour and headed back when they called.
After dinner we stopped by Oink's for some yummy ice cream. Avery had a few bites and was done but Mama was happy to get her favorite treat before leaving town.

We had the best family vacation! Something we will continue to do over the years since it is so easy for us to get to especially with the kids! Lots of activities - it will be fun next summer to see what other things we discover. We loved having our friends join us for a night!
